Cosmetic Ingredients & Raw Materials
Learn how to choose ingredients based on function, not because they are popular. Understand oils, humectants, conditioning agents, emulsifiers, thickeners, surfactants, actives and other cosmetic raw materials — including how to read supplier information and determine appropriate usage.
Module 6
Preservation, pH & Product Safety
Learn how to formulate safer water-based hair products. Understand preservation, pH adjustment, microbial contamination, chelators, antioxidants and stability — including why a product looking and smelling fine does not automatically mean it is safe.
Module 7
Shampoo & Cleansing Systems

Build Your Own Formula & Product Development
This is where everything comes together. Instead of being given another recipe to copy, you will learn how to develop your own product from the beginning. Start with an idea, turn it into a product brief, choose the right formulation system, research your raw materials, build your percentages to 100%, create your first prototype, evaluate it, troubleshoot problems and continue developing it until you have a formula that meets your original product objective. You will also complete your own Final Product Development Workbook, taking you through the development process step by step.
